Budget Fashionista

One of my favorite visits during fashion week was at TJX. TJX is the company that owns and runs Marshall, TJ Maxx, Homegoods. Also, other companies that are in Canada and Europe. This was one of my favorite visits because they described their buying office and I want to be a buyer. I also love shopping at Marshall and TJ Maxx they have great deals for nice clothes.

TJ Maxx is starting for bring runway to selected stores. They are opening high end, sale priced, designer boutiques in 40 stores nationwide. In time if they find that they are making a profit I think they will open more boutiques in more stores. These stores within a store feature major European and  American designers for up to 60% off retail price.

I like the TJ Maxx Company and I hope they continue to do well. I would love to have an internship with them.

New Perspective

Seeing the VLOV- Wu Fashion Show was definitely an amazing experience. Apparently I wasn't the only one he impacted. After his fashion show he hit big in the media.

As a Chinese designer he has made debut into the American market. His menswear line, VLOV, has introduced a new perspective for spring and summer 2012. Even though the show was just this fall 2011 fashion ideas are thought out months and even a year in advance. Wu is seeking to make a fusion between the east/west. He uses fabrics that work with the fast dynamics of men's every day lives. He uses visuals that show class and style. I think this is interesting because he is creating a polish and sleek style for men. He even uses light weight fabrics which is always a good thing. NO ONE wants to walk around especially at a fast pace in a heavy material.

His collection refurbishes men's trends to valuable modern sportswear pieces that are for any season. He has given a new twist. His collection is smart and sharp.

I think he has set a new era for fashion and will continue to hit big with his ideas. It won't be long until more designers follow in his artistic ideas and themes for their own collections. I can't wait to see what new designs will come out!!

Fashion Week

Going to fashion week was one of the greatest experiences. We got to go behind the senses of different fashion companies where we were provided with so much information. We also got to go to a Mercedes Benz fashion show. The down fall of the fashion study tour was that it was so expensive. Start saving now for next year because it is a great experience you don't want to miss!!

On Monday when we arrived in New York the first event we went to was VLOV Richard Wu fashion show, I didn't know what designer he was. His line was for men, overall his line was nice and the male models were sooo good looking!

We learned so much, from the meaning of the penny inserted in each of Anthony Luciano's hand made bags to the recreating of real models to make mannequins at Adel Rootstein's.

We were informed of the buying business behind the TJX Companies to the making and designing of Kenneth Cole shoes.

We were able to experience what was behind the closet of the history of Tommy Hilfiger and his lines to where the embroidery for the rockette outfits were done in Penn & Fletcher.

We learned how the Fashion Snoops website worked which was interesting.  Also, we went to the building where all the designers from Project Runway buy their fabric and materials to make their outfits during the show.

My two favorite experiences were going to Tiger J which produces clothing lines to QVC and Kleinfeld Bridal where the show Say Yes To The Dress is filmed. Seeing all the beautiful wedding dresses definitely causes some wedding bells to ring in my head.

Going to New York City for fashion week is an experience you will never forget. It allows you to retain so much information as well as be able to establish some connections with people in the fashion industry. If you are interested in fashion or fashion business I would definitely recommend this trip.

Week before fashion week

Since my major is fashion marketing and I have such an interest for it I am always looking to chances to work at any fashion events. I am more interesting in the business side of fashion. So when I found out Lynn University was doing a fashion study tour to New York City to work fashion week I knew it would be one of the greatest opportunities I would experience. It is now a few days before I leave for fashion week and I am so excited!! There is so much to expect for next week and according to the schedule we were given about the events we are going to work a lot. Hopefully we can get some free stuff too!!

Some of the designers I have never heard of like, Richard Wu, how is the designer of VLOV, apparently he is a designer based in China. Figured by the name Wu. It will still be interesting to see some of his work and learn about the fashion world of China. And of course I'm sure everyone has heard of the department stores Bloomingdale's and Saks Fifth Avenue and if you haven't they are more upscale department stores, $$. Ive never heard of Anthony Luciano either but as an Italian fashion designer I already know his pieces are going to be magnifico (magnificent). A little fun fact: Milan, Italy is the fashion capital of the world. There are a bunch of designers, name brands, and stores that we are working with that I haven't heard of. But I am very anxious, excited, and interested in getting to know their background and learning from them which will ultimately help me in my future.

I know everyone has heard of Tommy Hilfiger. He is such a popular designers especially with all his polo shirts that come in like a hundred different colors. Anyway we are meeting with Ginny Hilfiger, a design director. Oh ya and Tommy Hilfiger's sister!!

The most exciting event for me that we will be working is with the Tiger J collection. I didn't know which collection this was at first but once i found out, I was freaking excited! Tiger J is the collection for the store Dash. The stores Dash are run by the Kardashion sisters, now I definitely know everyone knows who they are. I always watch their show and follow their collection. I know their show is crazy and so am I for watching it, but I love them!! Each sister has their own unique style and idea for their collection. I think it is amazing because it gives girls an opportunity to try new styles and be able to pick a style their like. Also, the collection is not just for skinny girls but allows girls with curves to wear their line.

After reading an article i found out that the Kardashion's youngest sister, Kylie Jenner, will be walking the runway during New York City fashion week. She will be walking in Avril Lavigne's fashion show, Avril Lavigne has a fashion collection? Every one of the members of the Kardashion/ Jenner family has made enormous accomplishments. I would consider myself lucky if I made a fourth of the accomplishments as they have. I definitely look up to them. They are also great business women. Plus they are a very good looking family. Hopefully I get to meet them next week and maybe even learn something from them. That would be incredible!!

The worst part about this trip is figuring out what to pack! I want to make sure I look fashionable while also looking presentable. I most likely will end up packing my entire closet. But of course it would be wise not to pack jeans and shorts. Overall I am extremely! excited! about this trip. I have lived in New York my entire life and only a hour from Manhattan. I have always been interested in fashion and yearned to have an opportunity like this. Finally I have gotten that opportunity. It goes to show that the best things in life are worth waiting for.
